Wildland Foundations – Fire Risk Mitigation in Indigenous Communities

The Wildland Foundations project aims to document the cultural and ecological impacts of fire and mitigation activities, recommend restoration practices, and strengthen the role of Indigenous fire practices and people in wildfire management and research. This presentation was featured as a short “lightning talk” at the 2025 WRCC Building Foundational Knowledge Gathering, where recipients of Wildfire Resilient Futures Initiative (WRFI) funding from Natural Resources Canada shared key takeaways of their projects and demonstrated how their work is contributing to a more wildfire resilient future.
